It was founded in 1957 and started franchising in 1998. It was founded by Harry J. Hoenselaar. He started a tradition when the first HoneyBaked Ham Company store was opened in Michigan. Harry chooses the best quality bone-in ham. He cures it in a secret marinade and to make it tender, the ham is smoked for up to 24 hours over his own blend of hardwood chips. What made his ham famous is the way the sweet glaze cracked and his patented machine that slice the ham continuously in a single spiral. It has been passed on to three generations of the Hoenselaar family and up to now, they still prepare the hams one by one and exactly the same way Harry did. They now have 170 locations in the United States and four locations that are company owned.

Every location’s menu may vary. This one is based on a location in California. For the ‘Original & Authentic HoneyBaked Ham’, you can purchase a whole ham in weights of 13 pounds, 14 pounds, 15 pounds, or 16 pounds. You can also have half in a quarter, in 6 pounds up to 11 pounds.
