The Growing Room franchise is a business for a child development center. It was founded in 1988 by Sheree W. Mitchell, R.N. who is a pediatric nurse and her husband. They opened their first location in 1989 in Columbus, Georgia and now services 297 children.

It’s still open up to now and they have already made many changes and additions to the facilities. They have had a strong hold to the community and they make the decisions for the center locally. This puts the parents at ease that their children are safe. Their goal is to be able to expose children in an enriching environment that has nurturing teachers, appropriate curriculum for infants and kids of all ages. They now have 180 staff members that are working in three states and have over 1,200 children enrolled.

What is their curriculum?

They believe in the importance of educational concepts being presented as games to children but will help them in their success in school in the future. They present the curriculum that is initiated by teachers but directed by the children. For infants, they have language development, physical development, and learning from around the world that focuses on nature, numbers, shapes, sizes, color, five senses, tasting food, and developing a sense of self.

For toddlers, they have programs that consist of listening and talking through books, pictures, and conversations. Their physical development includes large muscles and small muscles. Creative activities teaches them using art, blocks, and dramatic play.

For kids aged two, three, and four, they have character education, K-2 A-BEKA Program, K-3 A-BEKA Program, and K-4 A-BEKA Program. They also have the Growing Room Christian Academy. They teach the kids the ABeka Christian Phonics Curriculum. It also includes Bible lessons and teaches kids about God’s love and grace.

For after school programs, they have Cooking Projects, Science Experiments, and Arts and Crafts Activities. Their summer camps feature themes like Under The Sea, Hawaiian Luau, Ice Cream, Let’s Go Fishin’, Fun at the Circus, A Salute to America, Gardening, I Love Bugs, and Goodbye Summer. They also have field trips to Monkey Joes, Chuck E Cheese, Bowling, and other activities. They also have Night Owl and Early Bird programs that offer babysitting services at night or early in the morning. Some of the extracurricular program include Dance Classes, Spanish Classes, United Cheerleading, and JumpBunch.

Costs and requirements on running The Growing Room franchise:

You need to have a net worth of $400,000 and a total liquid asset of at least $100,000. Expect to be investing about $490,000 to $2,200,000. Franchise fee is $40,000 with an on-going royalty fee of 7%. This is for a renewable 10 year term agreement. You will need about 70 employees to run one location.

What is included in the franchise package?

There will be two weeks training at the headquarters and one and a half weeks at your location. You will be provided with an operations manual. You will have exclusivity in your territory. You will also receive assistance in site selection and in purchasing equipments. You will be given assistance at the grand opening from an executive management member. You may expect occasional site visits to check on your progress. For marketing, there will be ad slicks.
