The Honors Learning Center Franchise Information

The Honors Learning Center is a franchise for a business providing supplemental education and academic testing.

It was founded in 1987 and they started franchising in 1991. The first location was opened in Chattanooga, Tennessee. They wanted to help students to gain a grade level through comprehension skills. In their experience, they were able accomplish this and sometimes even two grade levels, in just 36 hours of instruction. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA) gave them accreditation in 1998. A number of their affiliations include The Better Business Bureau, Children & Adults with Attention-Deficit Disorder (CHADD), Association of Education Practitioners and Providers (AEPP), and The Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce. They also have State-Certified Teachers. They require their teachers to always have a current state certification.

What programs do they offer at The Honors Learning Center?

Before starting any program, the student has to go through a pre-admission testing. These tests are conducted by certified evaluators. This is done for them to identify the type of curriculum and the materials that would best fit a student.

Each program is customized and individualized for each student. They are to attend a session two hours every week. Each program does not have more than three students to make sure that everyone gets a one-to-one attention.

Every 36 hours of total number sessions, a re-test is conducted to monitor the child’s progress. They offer programs focused on Math which includes Grades K-12, Algebra Readiness, Algebra I and II and Geometry. For improving study skills, they includes Test Taking Skills, Test Anxiety, Test Preparation, Organizational Skills, Time Management, Studying a Textbook, Notetaking, Setting Goals and Priorities, Memory Tricks, Classroom Participation, Active Listening, Eliminating Excuses, and Arranging a Study Center.

For college and adult learners, they offer programs on improving test taking skills, study skills, reading comprehension and reading speed, developmental math, vocabulary, spelling, comprehension, reading fluency, academic knowledge, and math until Algebra II. These adult learners also go through the same pre-admission testing. Most of them get into the program to prepare for GED, a promotion, or for job search.
