Homewood Suites by Hilton is a franchise for a hotel with residential style suites. It was founded in 1989 and the first location was opened in Omaha, Nebraska. It used to be owned by Promus Hotel Corporation along with Hampton Inn, Doubletree, and Embassy Suites.

In 1999, Promus Hotel Corporation was purchased by Hilton. It cost them $3.1 billion dollars. Its top competitors are Residence Inn and Staybridge Suites by Marriott. They now have 306 operational hotels and 75 more that are still under developed. In 2010, it was named by the J.D. Power & Associates North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Index as the “Top Extended-Stay Hotel” and in 2011, it was awarded by Harris Interactive the “2011 Extended-stay Hotel Brand of the Year”. They have also done some programs that benefit the community such as their partnership with “Books for Kids”. They created Lewis the Duck as a cartoon character in a book that wears the Homewood Suites logo. It has been made part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2010 and will be until 2012. It’s a first for a hotel brand to be featured in the parade.
