The Ho Math & Chess Learning Centre franchise makes use of chess as a fun way to teach and learn math.

It was founded in 1995 by Frank Ho. He first opened a center in British Columbia, Canada and named it Vancouver Ho Math and Chess learning Centre. Frank Ho was a computer consultant and has a master’s degree in statistics. He is now a BC certified math teacher.

It all started when rank wanted to teach his five year old son how to play chess. At that time, he did not know how to play it and taught his son using computer software, chess books, and chess magazines. He was successful in teaching him because he became the youngest Canadian Chess master when he was only 12 years old. The reason why he taught his son how to play chess is because he realized the correlation on math and chess. When he discovered it, he immediately took the initiative to create a math and chess workbooks that were designed for elementary students. It was the world’s first.

In 2006, they started franchising in the United States and the first one was opened in California. In 2007, they expanded their franchise in Latin America and in Turkey. In 2008, they extended the franchise to Arabic speaking countries, Malaysia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, and Peru. In 2009, they earned their copyright in Canada and trademarked in China. In 2010, their workbooks started being sold worldwide. They now currently have six franchises in the United States, four in Canada, 11 in other countries, and one that is company owned.

What programs do they have at Ho Math & Chess Learning Centre?

They have math and calculus courses for grades eight to 12. Foe chess alone, they have it available for grades one to 12. Lastly, they have the integrated course that includes all in one course prepared for kindergarten to grade seven. In their programs, it may include IQ puzzles, math, word problems, Frankho Chess magazines, mathematical chess problems, and math contests problems. All their teaching methods has been standardized, structured, and streamlined in all their locations worldwide.

Costs and requirements on running a Ho Math & Chess  franchise

You need to have a net worth of $3,000 and a total liquid asset of at least $3,000. Expect to be investing about $25,150. The Ho Math & Chess Learning Centre franchise fee is $2,100. This is for a renewable one year term agreement. This franchise can be run from home. You will need one employee to run one location. They do not allow absentee ownership.

What is included in the franchise package?

There will be one week training at the headquarters. You will be receiving newsletters. You will be given access to the internet and purchasing cooperatives. For marketing support, there will be co-op advertising.
