Studio 6 Franchise Information

Studio 6 is a franchise for extended-stay lodging. It was founded in 1998 and started franchising in 1999.

It is the extended-stay version of Motel 6. Motel 6 was founded by William Becker and Paul Greene who were then building contractors. The first Motel 6 was opened in Santa Barbara, California in 1962. Their vision was to provide a low-cost hotel with the most basic amenities but can compete with big hotel brands. Their target market includes those who want to spend the least but still get the comfort and cleanliness of a big hotel. They were known as the “no frills” hotel.

After the great success of Motel 6 came the idea of putting up an extended-stay version on it and named it Studio 6. They offer the same amenities as a Motel 6 but offers weekly and monthly rates. They now have locations in 15 states and in Canada. A couple of their competitors include Choice Hotel’s Suburban Extended Stay Hotels and Extended Stay Hotels. Some locations of Studio 6 were converted and renovated from other brands like Homestead Studio Suites. Studio 6 is under Accor as well as Motel 6. Accor is a company that manages and operates in 90 countries with 4,100 hotels. Other brands under Accor are Sofitel Luxury Hotels, Novotel Hotels, Ibis Hotel, Mercure, Suitehotel, Etap Hotel, All Seasons, and Formule 1. Studio 6 now has 21 locations in the United States, one in Canada, and 40 locations that are company owned.
