Line-X is a franchise for a business providing protective coatings on truck bed liners. It was founded in 1993 and started franchising in 1999.

Their headquarters is in Santa Ana, California. They have products that are used in industrial, commercial, military, agricultural, and other custom applications. They spray elastomers polyureas and polyurethanes. They have done a lot of research to be able to produce elastomeric coatings that can be sprayed. Their industrial division was launched in 1999. It was in 2000 that they explored the technology of blast mitigation that are used by Homeland Security in their moves against terrorist’s tactical development which lead to their producing PAXCON Protective Coatings.They have been certified in the United States by the FDA and USDA, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, H.P. White, EMRTC, AFRL, Potable water per ANSI/NSF 61 Section 5, MSHA Approval & Certification Center, Fungus Resistance Testing, and ASTM.

They have also received certifications in the United Kingdom from Water Regulations Advisory Scheme and Certification of Conformity Food. Some of their partners are elcometer, Graco, DuPont, DayGlo, TruckCovers, Diamond Back, ClearView, OtisSpunkmeyer, NWTF, Obesession, Crawl, BASF. They now have 388 locations in the United States, 53 locations in Canada, 39 in other countries, and one location that is company owned.

They say that their coatings provide superior protection. They use two types of components which stays in place, thermoplastic polyurethane and polyurea, and 100% solid. For industrial applications, they have XS-130 Polyurethane, XS-100 Hybrid, XS-252 HybridXS-152 Hybrid, XS-350 Polyurea, XS-310 Polyurea, XS-430 Polyurea, XS-370 Polyurea, CS 410-750, CS 400-750, CU-460 Polyurea, CU-400, ASPART-X Polyaspartic, SE-500 Hybrid, LINE-X XTRA Polyurethane, FOAM-GUARD Polyurethane, PAXCON-3350, and PAXCON-2100.

Some of their big customers using Line-X industrial coating include Body Glove Corporation, Amerada Hess A/S, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc., CP Kelco A/S, GMS, E2, International Theme Parks, Halliburton, Maersk Oil & Gas A/S, Kubota Tractor Corporation, Rush enterprises Inc./Peterbilt, Mission Foods Corporation, Yamaha Corporation, and Sumerset Houseboats. Other applications are bed liners, commercial industrial, light industrial, security and defense, and residential.

Cost and requirements on running a Line-X franchise

You need to have a net worth of $150,000 and a total liquid asset of at least $25,000. Expect to be investing about $126,000 to $267,000. The cost of Line-X franchise fee is $30,000 with no royalty fees. This is for a renewable 10 year term agreement. You will need about two employees to run one location. They allow multi-unit ownership and absentee ownership.

What is included in the franchise package?

There will be five days training at the headquarters and five days at a training center. You will be receiving newsletters. You will be given access to purchasing cooperatives. Expect to be attending meetings and receiving occasional field evaluations to check on your progress. For marketing support, there will be ad slicks, co-op advertising, and national media.
