Radisson is a franchise for a hotel. It was founded in 1960 and started franchising in 1983.
In 1960, Curt Carlson purchased 50 percent of Radisson Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. It was in the 1970’s when they started expanding the business through its owned and managed hotels in Colorado, Minneapolis, Nebraska, Kansas, Florida, Arizona, Illinois, Massachusetts, Delaware, and Tennessee.
In 1987, they opened a new Radisson Hotel on the location where the original Radisson Hotel was. They started expanding globally in 1991 when they opened a location in Moscow. After that, the first American-managed resort was opened in Russia. It was also in the 1990’s when they formed a partnership agreement with the Edwardian Hotel and when they celebrated their more than 500 locations mark. In 2008, they celebrated their 1,000 locations mark when they opened the Radisson St. Martin Resort, Marina and Spa. In 2010, they launched their aims for Ambition 2015 with the goal of having 1,500 locations by the end of 2015. They now have 115 locations in the United States, 19 in Canada, 283 in other countries, and five that are company owned.

For the suites, they have free internet access, in-room safe, full size iron and ironing board, coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave, two flat-screen LCD televisions, sleeper sofa, well-lit work table, two telephones, and a wet bar. For business class, they have added an iHome clock radio with iPod and MP3 connection, extra electrical outlets near the desk,
spacious work desk, in-room laptop safe, comfortable work chair, turn-down service, upgraded bathroom amenities, one drink voucher per night, newspaper, breakfast, bathrobe, and slippers. As for other services within the hotel, they usually have business services such as a business center, audio and video equipment rental, fax, express mail, photo copying services, meeting rooms, well-lit workstation, printer, and wireless and hard-wired internet access. Other amenities are heated pool, baggage storage, complimentary shuttle service, complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast, lounge, laundry, ATM, elevators, gift shop, fitness center, room-service, multi-lingual staff, whirlpool, safety deposit box, tour desk, sightseeing tours, laundry and valet service. They also have cribs, high chairs, and children’s menu for travelling.
Cost and requirements on running a Radisson franchise
Expect to be investing about $2,953,000 to $7,309,000. The cost of Radisson’s franchise fee is $75,000 with an on-going royalty fee of 5%. This is for a renewable 20 year term agreement.
What is included in the franchise package?
There will be one week training at the headquarters and one week at your location. You will be receiving newsletters and a toll free phone number. You will be given access to the internet and to purchasing cooperatives. You will also be provided assistance at the grand opening. Expect to be attending meetings and receiving occasional field evaluations. For marketing support, there will be ad slicks, co-op advertising, regional advertising, and national media.
