Monart School of the Arts Franchise Information

Monart School of the Arts is a franchise for a business providing art education. It was founded in 1979 and started franchising in 2004.

It was founded by Mona Brookes. She went to Chouinard Art Institute. She also attended the Pepperdine University and achieved a degree in Psychology and Art. She initially founded the Monart Method in 1979 as a phonetic reading program for children in Kindergarten to sixth grade. She was given a study grant by the California Arts Council because her method showed a 20% improvement in the children’s reading scores. Her method is a way to help improve realistic drawing skills and visual perception.

It helps build confidence that even teachers says that the student’s problem solving abilities and concentration improves only after a few session at Monart School of Arts. Her method has been recognized by noted personalities from different institutions like Howard Gardner who authored “Multiple Intelligence” from Harvard University, John Solem from Califronia Lutheran University, Don Oldenburg from The Washington Post, Lynn Silverman from Kennedy Center, Dr. Lucia Capacchione from Creative Journal Writing, Robert Evans from National Children’s Museum, and Joanne Nelsen from Huntington Beach News. They now have 27 locations in the United States.

What is the Monart Method?

It has the five basic elements of shape. It includes the dot and circle family which has different forms such as oval, elipse, and kidney. The line family also has three forms such as the straight line family, the curved line family, and the angle line family. These are used as an “alphabet” in drawing. They are combined to form different objects. They are taught to view the world through the five elements and transform them onto the paper.

What books has the founder, Mona Brookes, have written to aid students in learning how to draw?

“Drawing for Older Children and Teens -A Creative Method for Adult Beginners, Too“includes inspirational stories of students and guides in developing their own style and even learning the basics in choosing your materials. “Drawing With Children-Tenth Anniversary Edition” is a revised edition. It also reaches to children who have special needs and learning problems.
