Carvel was founded in 1934 by Tom Carvel who had a dream of making Carvel the best brand of ice cream in New York. The first ice cream shop was opened in Hartsdale, New York, and there after new shops kept on opening. The franchise operations of Carvel started on 1947.

Carvel provides its franchisees with comprehensive classroom training sessions along with hand on training sessions. Training is available at the headquarters for a period of 10 days, and at the franchisee location for 5 days. Along with this Carvel also provides additional annual training.

Carvel franchising process includes six steps; request for consideration, Franchise sale director meeting, Franchise disclosure and due diligence, franchise application filed, signing the franchise agreement and paying the fees and lastly construction and opening of the restaurant.

The total investment required for a Carvel franchise varies between $270,374 – $351,324 and the franchising fee is $30,000. The ongoing royalty fee is $2.07/gallon with 20 years term of agreement.
