Travelodge Franchise Information

Travelodge is a franchise for a budget motel. It was founded in 1939 and started franchising in 1966.

It was founded by Scott King. He opened the first location in 1940 in San Diego, California. They offer lower rates with keeping focus on functional amenities like comfortable beds, room phones, free TV, in-room coffee pots, carpeted floors, and swimming pools. They also emphasize on having locations either within downtown areas or near it. This is for the convenience of their guests to be near tourist attractions, restaurants, shopping areas, and theatres.

They started offering “Bear Bites” recently which is a continental breakfast that has coffee, juices, and some pastries. It is under the management of Wyndham Worldwide in North America. Their target market is families with children, which is why their mascot is Sleepy Bear. He’s a bear with eyes that are half asleep, wears a cap with his name on it, a robe with the Travelodge logo on it and slippers. They also once gave away plush teddy bears to every child who is checked in the Sleepy Bear Den Room. These types of rooms are now being lessened because of its high maintenance costs compared to their standard rooms. They now have 342 locations in the United States and 92 locations in Canada.
