The Learning Experience is a franchise for a business offering child care. It was founded in 1979 and started franchising in 2003.

It was founded by Michael and Linda Weissman in Florida. They were also eventually joined by their son, Richard. It was then under the name Tutor Time. In 1979 to 1989, they were running eight locations around Florida as wells as the one in Kennedy Space Center.

The company grew to almost 200 locations in about 28 states and in other countries. At a time, they were the largest childcare business in the United States. Michael Weissman retired in 1997 and their son retired in 1999. They decided to re-enter the business in 2001 and named it The Learning Experience. It currently has about 80 locations in several states such as New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina.

What makes The Learning Experience different?

They build a strong foundation for the child to grow socially, emotionally, and cognitively and letting them learn these at their own pace. The children are provided a fun filled environment that encourages them to learn. The facilities are well equipped, clean, secure and safe.

Each classroom has a video monitoring system for the parents and for administrative control. All their staff members had to go through a background check and they hire caregivers instead of babysitters. They are also certified to do CPR and SIDS on infants and children. Each baby has their own crib and for three year olds, potty training is part of the program. They provide a daily or weekly report for the children for all ages. All their curriculums are set in a fun format. The teachers teach the children sign language from infants to preschoolers. They believe that children who are taught sign language at an early age scores higher on IQ tests by about 12 points.

What programs do they offer at The Learning Experience?

They call it Charlie Choo Choo Enrichment Programs. The train has passengers such as the Talent Sprouts named Tommy and Tammy who introduces children to performing arts. Another is Suddenly Science which is lead by Lionstein, Music 4 Me by Bongo Bear, Dancing Feet by Hop, Bop and Baby Taps, Movin’ N Groovin by Miss Chievous, State to Art by Pablo Pigasso, and Marvelous Math by TwoPlus Toucan. These programs are available as a themed party, workshop, summer camp, after school enrichment program, or as a field trip depending on the franchise location.

Costs and requirements on running The Learning Experience franchise

You need to have a net worth of $500,000 and a total liquid asset of at least $150,000. Expect to be investing about $465,000 to $3,531,000. The Learning Experience franchise fee is $60,000 with an on-going royalty fee of 7%. This is for a renewable 15 year term agreement. You will need about 10 to 20 employees to run one location. They do not allow absentee ownership.

What is included in the franchise package?

There will be two weeks training at the headquarters and two weeks at your location. You will be receiving newsletters and assistance at the grand opening. You will be given access to the internet and expecting to attend meetings. You will also be receiving occasional visits for evaluations. For marketing support, there will be ad slicks, regional advertising, and national media.
