La Quinta is a franchise for limited-service and mid-sized hotels.

It was founded in 1968 and started franchising in 2000. The first La Quinta was opened in San Antonio, Texas during the Hemis Fair 1968. Their headquarters was transferred to Irving, Texas in 1999. They was acquired by Blackstone Group in 2005.

The types and setting of hotels differ in every location although those that are company owned are standardized. With this, the franchisees are given the freedom to customize the rooms and contents as they please. The architectural exteriors, however, are generally Southern and Spanish in design.

The different locations also offer different tour packages at special rates such as sports packages, romance packages, entertainment packages, and other seasonal packages for occasions like Christmas and New Year. They are one of the very few hotel chains that allow pets in the hotels without having to pay anything extra. There may be some locations that do not allow pets to be left unattended in their rooms.  Some of their competitors include Comfort Inn, AmericInn, Best Western, Fairfield Inn, Baymont Inn and Suites, and Hampton Inn. They now have 400 locations in the United States, one in Canada, one in another country, and 372 that are company owned.

They have well-equipped work-out facilities, business centers, conference and meeting rooms, on-property laundry facilities, and pillow-top mattresses. Locations also either has an indoor or outdoor pool. The fees already include access to free high speed internet, and La Quinta Returns which is a rewarding guest program. The Free Bright Side Breakfast consists of hot and cold cereal, waffles, fresh fruit, bread and muffins, pastries, milk, bagels, and all-you-can-drink coffee and juice.

These may differ in ever location. They have microwaves, premium cable channels. Refrigerators, iron with ironing board, hair dryer, voicemail, dataport phones, alarm clock, hair dryer, coffee maker, and free high speed internet access.

Cost and requirements on running a La Quinta Inn and Suites franchise

You need to have a net worth of $2,500,000. Expect to be investing about $4,300,000 to $5,600,000. The cost of La Quinta Inn and Suites franchise fee is $50,000 with an on-going royalty fee of 4.5%. This is for a renewable 20 year term agreement. You will need about 20 to 25 employees to run one location. They allow multi-unit ownership and absentee ownership.

What is included in the franchise package?

There will be two weeks training at the LQUniversity. They have been recognized as the best by the American Society of Training and Development. They will include trainings such as opening training, integration, one week corporate training for general managers, management field training, and product quality training. You will be receiving newsletters and a toll free phone number. You will be given access to the internet and to purchasing cooperatives. Expect to be attending meetings and receiving occasional field evaluations. For marketing support, there will be ad slicks, co-op advertising, regional advertising, and national media.
