Hungry Howie’s Pizza & Subs Franchise

Hungry Howie’s Pizza & Subs is a franchise for a pizza and subs shop. It was founded in 1973 and started franchising in 1982. It was founded by Jim Hearn and opened his first shop in Taylor, Michigan as a hamburger shop.

It eventually became a pizzeria that offered delivery and carry-out. It was Steve Jackson who delivered pizzas for Hearn and this turned out to be a partnership that became the birth of Hungry Howie’s. They opened their business to franchising in 1982 and awarded the first franchise of Hungry Howie’s in 1983. In just three years, they already had 65 franchises and by the time the 1980’s was over, they had 160 locations. Their 500th location was opened in 2005. They established the Hungry Howie’s Distributing inc. as a way to control the consistency and pricing of their products. One was opened in Michigan in 1986 and another was opened in Florida in 1987. They continued to grow and have been known as one of the largest pizza chains. They now have 560 locations in the United States.
