Grampa’s Catfish House Franchise
Grampa’s Catfish House is a franchise for a restaurant serving Southern foods, seafood, and catfish.
It was founded in 1970 and started franchising in 2005. The first location was opened at 1218 Mission Rd., North Little Rock. The location was tucked away in the back roads and because of this, eating at Grampa’s a special treat. Their first location only sat 30 customers and because of this, a lot of them had to wait to be seated. As they waited, Grampa gives them peanuts and these peanuts became a hit that their floor was covered with peanut shells. This became a tradition but they had to stop it because of the insurance company.
Another tradition built at Grampa’s was the hats. It started with their friend, Dave. He came down to visit every year and one year, he came to show a cap for his business, “Thomson’s Meats”. Grampa’s was busy that day and Dave decided to leave. As Dave left, he stapled the cap onto the wall. Their location at Mission Road now has about 2,000 caps stapled on the wall and the location at Shadow Oaks has about 200 caps. They had to move out of the old building and open a new one that seats 270 customers and 200 seats in private areas.
