Domino’s Pizza is a franchise for a pizza chain. Tom and James Monaghan purchased DomiNick’s in 1960. It was a small pizza place in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

After 8 months, James decided o trade his half of the business for a Volkswagen Beetle. In 1965, Tom renamed it to Domino’s Pizza. He started franchising Domino’s pizza in 1967. He was supposed to add a dot on the logo for every new location but the franchise grew real fast. In 1978, they already had 200 franchises. It was in May 12, 1983 when they opened their first international store in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. By 1997, they were opening 7 locations in five continents in just one day which brought them to 1,500 on that same year. Tom retired in 1998 and sold Domino’s pizza to Bain Capital. They now have more than 8,000 stores around the world.

Domino’s has also had its share helping the community. They launched a 2 year partnership with Make-A-Wish Foundation of America in 2001. That same year, they served more than 12,000 pizzas to the workers helping in the 911 attacks on The Pentagon and The World Trade Center. They also donated $350,000 to the American Red Cross. They started their partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 2004 and have raised over $1.3 million in 2006 for the “Thanks and Giving” campaign.

What’s on the menu at Domino’s Pizza?

They have 4 types of crust choices for the pizzas: Hand tossed, Deep Dish to prevent overload of toppings, Crunchy Thin, and Brooklyn Style which is hand stretched to be thin and foldable. The pizzas are available in Small 10”, Medium 12”, Large 14”, and Extra Large 16”. They have the American Legends Pizza: Wisconsin 6 cheese, Philly Cheese Steak, Cali Ckicken Bacon Ranch, Memphis BBQ, and Buffalo Chicken to name a few. For the Feasts Pizza, they have Bacon Cheeseburger Feast, Extravaganzza Feast, Meatzza Feast, Ultimate Pepperoni Feast, and Americas Favorite Feast. They also have the BreadBowl Pasta like 3 cheese mac-n-cheese, Italian Sausage Marinara, or you can build your own pasta. For oven-baked sandwiches, they have Chicken Parm, Mediterranean Veggie, and Italian Sausage and Peppers to name a few. If that’s not enough, they have side options like their new boneless chicken and chicken wings. You can also have bread like the Cheesy Bread and Cinna Stix.

Costs and Requirements Associated with Running a Domino’s Pizza Franchise

You need to have a total liquid asset of at least $75,000. Expect to be investing about $120,000 to $462,000. Franchise fee is $25,000 with an on-going royalty fee of 5.5%. This is for a renewable 10 year term agreement. They also have the option called “Operator to Owner”. If you successfully manage a store for at least 1 year, and a minimum $50,000 to start up with, you may consider this option. You can better learn the business before having your own.

What’s included in the franchise package?

There will be 6-8 weeks certifiable training at the headquarters. For on-going support, you will receive newsletters and attend meetings. You will also be assisted in the grand opening and expect occasional field evaluations to track your progress. For marketing, There would be co-op advertising, ad slicks, and national media.
