Discovery Point is a franchise for a child development center. It was founded in 1988 by Cliff and Diane Clark. They opened their second location in 1990 and started franchising in 1991.

 Cliff has been a licensed pilot for more than 40 years. He is also in the business of real estate and construction. He manages and owns other businesses in manufacturing and distribution industry. He is the president and CEO. Diane is an educator with a master’s degree in education. She was a school teacher in private and public school for 18 years. They also have several staffs that help them run the franchise. They have a licensed broker, small business administration specialist, professional civil engineer, franchise support personnel, franchise development, accounting, and the quality assurance personnel who visit all the locations in a monthly basis. They now have 59 locations and 10 more are being developed.

What programs do Discovery Point offer?

For infants aged six weeks to 24 months old, they have the Infant Program, Beginner Program, and Toddler Program. For children aged two years to five years old, they have Preschool one, two, and three Program. For children aged four years and five year old, they have Georgia Pre-K Program and Florida Pre-K Program. For children aged five years to 12 years old, they have before and after school care and Summer Camps. Before and after School Care includes the child’s exploration in art, dramatic play, reading, and science. Their summer camps have themes like The Awesome 80’s, Camp DP Got Talent, Ocean Wonders, and Super Heroes. Some other camp activities include weekly field trips like Baby Land General, Atlanta Dream, Hollywood Cinema, and Bowling, Zoo. They also have Summer Olympics, arts and crafts, and water play. The center also provides Enrichments Programs and Drop-In Program for all ages. In enrichment programs, the children are taught different languages like Spanish, or sports like gymnastics, or learn how to dance or play a music instrument. The center also doubles as a day care center. They accept drop-in children who are infants, preschoolers, and school ages children. They would charge an hourly rate.

Cost and requirements on running a Discovery Point franchise

You need to have a net worth of $500,000 and a total liquid asset of at least $450,000. Expect to be investing about $365,000 to $420,000. The Discovery Point Franchise fee is $50,000 with an on-going royalty fee of $4,000 a month. This is for a renewable 20 year term agreement. You will need about 35 employees to run one location.

What is included in the franchise package?

There will be two weeks training at the headquarters and two weeks training at your location. You will be receiving newsletters, a toll free phone number, and assistance at the grand opening. You will be given access to the internet, and purchasing cooperatives. You may also expect the monthly field evaluations to check on your progress. For marketing, there will be co-op advertising, ad slicks, regional advertising, and national media.
