Actor’s Garage Franchise

Actor’s Garage is a franchise for an acting workshop business. It was founded in 2004 by Ann Gray who is a comedian and an actress. She trained in acting school in New York such as The Gene Frankel Theatre, William Esper Studios, and The Barrow Group.

She also trained with a number of New York’s casting directors. Ann put up her own curriculum in 18 of her privately owned studios. She had 18 locations that are in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. She based her curriculum from her experience as an actress in film, TV, and commercials. She says that kids are not only taught to become actors or actresses but because they learn to embrace their own gifts, they become better individuals. In just 2 years and only 18 locations, they already had 1,000 students and most of them come back because they’re the only ones who do classes on camera. They vow that give no negative comments to their students and they treat everyone as part of the class.

What classes do Actor’s Garage have?

For ages 2-4 years old, they have the Mini Movie Stars Classes which is a 45 minute class that has dancing, storytelling, music, and everything is done on camera to make them used to it. For ages 4-6 year old, they have the Young Tweens Classes which includes making their own commercials and acting individually in front of the camera and they will also be able to see on the small screen later on. For 7 years old and up to teens, they have the Tweens Classes which introduces them to concentration, relaxation, character analysis, improvisation, filming scenes and commercials, and writing and performing their own commercials and TV shows. In this class, they teach “The Ten basics of Acting”.  This includes monologue work, exploring commercial copy, and creative storytelling. Each activity is on camera so the students can watch themselves and see their improvements. Besides the basic acting classes, they also have Comedy Classes for Teens. They have the Comic’s Garage Class which they say should be the first step your child needs to take to get be to on Broadway. They are taught how to write and tell their own jokes. They also get to watch themselves on TV while in class. This class is designed for grades 3-8. Another comedy class is the Improv Garage Class where they will learn to work with a team and get to watch themselves on TV as a group.
