The Aussie Pet Mobile is a franchise for a mobile pet care. Ian Moses founded the Aussie Pet Mobile in 1996 in Sydney Australia.
He and Vivienne McIntosh were running a bed and breakfast. They had no time to care and bathe their Golden Retriever and Jack Russell Terrier and needed to keep them away. Their dogs were allowed to roam free in their farm with the horses. Ian found a businesswoman who offered to groom their dogs. She had an old trailer that has an old bath tub thrown in the back that she uses to bathe the dogs. The idea was there and that’s where Aussie Pet Mobile started. They now have 240 branches worldwide: United States, Canada, Ireland, Japan, Australia, China, New Zealand, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Their headquarters is in Aliso Viejo, California.
What services do they offer?
They do full service grooming of dogs and cats. They accept all breeds. Full service grooming includes bathing, cleaning nails, furminating, teeth brushing, and flea and tick control. A special service they offer is the FURminator. It’s recommended to be done every 4-6 weeks. It takes off the undercoat and reduces the shedding of fur by about 60%-80%. It’s a way to shed the undercoat without having to shave everything off.
Aussie Pet Mobile has been featured in Entrepreneur magazine for seven consecutive years. In 2006, they were ranked #77 in the Top Global Franchise and received an award as Best of the Best franchises. In 2007, they were featured in Franchise Times Fast 55 and ranked #18 as a Top Homebased Franchise. In 2008, they ranked #1 in Entrepreneurs’ pet category and #86 overall. In 2009, They again ranked #1 in Entrepreneurs pet category and #70 overall.
What are the advantages of the Aussie Pet Mobile?
It could be less stressful for your pets to be groomed in an environment that they’re used to. They can do grooming anywhere since it’s in a mobile van. The vans have lighting and climate control which makes it possible for them to do the grooming anytime and anywhere. The van will come fully equipped. Since everything’s done in a van, you don’t have to worry about finding a stable location to target a good market.
Costs and Requirements Associated with Running a Aussie Pet Mobile Franchise
Total Net requirement is $100,000 and Total Liquid asset requirement is $65,000. They don’t allow absentee ownership. Expect a total investment of about $98,000 to $115,000. Franchise fee is $29,000 to $69,000; there is an on-going royalty fee of between 4% and 8%. This is for a ten year renewable term agreement.
What’s included in the franchise package? There will be three days training at the headquarters and in-field training for groomers. On-going training is provided for advanced grooming. Included support are the newsletters, meetings, grand opening, internet, toll-free phone line; purchasing cooperatives; safety and security procedures; and field operations and evaluations. For marketing, there will be ad slicks, regional and national advertising.
